Semiya Upma Recipe | Vermicelli Breakfast | Vermicelli Upma

Servings - 3



Ingredients:


  • 11/2 cup vermicelli or shavige

  • 3 cup water (Approx.)

  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp Bengal gram

  • 1/2 tsp urad dal

  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds

  • 1 large onion

  • Some curry leaves

  • 3-4 green chilli

  • 1 tsp finely chopped ginger

  • 1 + 1 tbsp oil

  • 1 tbsp ghee

  • 1/2 cup green peas 

  • 1/2 cup carrot

  • 1/2 cup beans

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • Salt to  taste

  • Some chopped coriander leaves


Method:


  1. Heat 1 tbsp oil and roast the vermicelli until it turns light golden brown. 

  2. Heat oil & ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds & let it splutter. 

  3. Add Bengal gram urad dal and cumin seeds, roast for a few seconds. 

  4. Then add curry leaves, chillies, ginger and saute.  Add onion and fry for a min.

  5. Add green peas, carrots, beans & salt, mix well.  

  6. Cover and cook for 4 to 6 minutes, then add water and bring it to a boil. 

  7. Add roasted vermicelli and mix.  Cover and cook the vermicelli on low heat. 

  8. When it's 90% done give it a quick mix. Simmer few more minutes, add in the lemon juice & coriander.   

  9. Mix well & serve immediately.
